What is Night To Shine?

 A prom for people with special needs ages 14 and over, who will be our guests for the evening. Guests will be celebrated with a red carpet, crowns and tiaras, corsages and boutonnieres, limo rides, games, dancing, dinner, photo portraits and VIP treatment. The vision is to provide an unforgettable night full of faith, hope and love for the amazing people with special needs.

For our second year in a row, Night To Shine will be held at The Pavilion at The Centre of Tallahassee.

FAQs for Volunteers

If I sign up to be a volunteer, will I receive training?

Absolutely! All of our volunteers will receive area specific training the week of the event. As you register, please stay up-to-date on information regarding dates and times for trainings.

As a volunteer, what do I need to bring with me the night of the event?

All volunteers will need bring a valid photo ID to check in. We ask that volunteers bring as little as possible with them. There is a limited amount of space in the coat check area for personal belongings. Please try to leave as many things as possible in your vehicles.

Do I need experience as a buddy to serve at Night to Shine?

No. The primary requirement of a buddy is the desire to help a guest have the best night of their life. We will have buddy trainings that will provide all the information and support needed for buddies to feel confident in making sure everyone has a great time.


I want to volunteer. Why is there a $10 fee?

A requirement of the Tim Tebow Foundation is that every volunteer undergoes a background check. This is for the safety of all of our guests. It is our mission that Night to Shine sponsored by Genesis Church with support from Shine Tallahassee be an event where every part is specifically designed to make it a night where each guest feels like the king and queen they truly are! We found that thousands of dollars were being spent running background checks for volunteers, who sometimes didn’t even show up! With our mission in mind, we would rather spend those funds making Night to Shine the best it can be for guests. We ask for a $10 fee to help cover the cost of the background check so Night to Shine can continue to be the amazing event that it is! Thank you so much for your understanding!

I have dresses or suits I would like to donate. What do I need to do?

Thank you for your interest in donating! We are accepting suits and tuxedos of all sizes and formal dresses sizes 12 and up only. Please make sure all clothing items are clean and in good condition. We also accept accessories such as ties, vests, purses, shoes, and jewelry. All donations can be dropped off on Tuesdays between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 p.m. Starting in 2018, we will increase our donation days and hours.

FAQs for Guests/Caregivers

Who is invited to be a guest at Night to Shine?

Any person with a physical, cognitive, or developmental disability who is age 14 and up.

How much does it cost for a guest to attend Night to Shine?

Night to Shine is free for all guests and their parents!


Will guests be left alone at any point?

No. Every guest at Night to Shine is paired with a volunteer buddy for the evening. Buddies are responsible for accompanying and assisting their assigned guest throughout the entire evening, providing companionship and any assistance that the guest may need.

I am a parent of a guest at Night to Shine. What are my options?

We are so excited to have your child as a guest at Night to Shine. As a parent you have two options. First, you may choose to be your child’s buddy for the evening. If you select to be your child’s buddy, we will not pair a volunteer buddy with them and you will need to remain with them at all times throughout the evening. Your second option is to register to attend our Parent Date Night event. All parents are eligible to attend this event which takes place within the Night to Shine event where you will be able to relax, be pampered and served, while watching your child experience Night to Shine. Space is limited, so register early!

Is there a cut off date for guest registration?

There is no cutoff for guest registration.  Volunteers need to register as soon as possible to allow time for their background check to complete.


What is the dress code of the event?

Guests and parents are encouraged to dress up to their desired level of comfortability. It is a prom event and formal attire is largely represented but we want everyone to enjoy themselves and for some that may mean a more casual style. There will be a free Prom Shop event for guests on January 26, 2019 to come and select a dress or tux for Night to Shine. Volunteer dress code will be covered throughout the volunteer process and at the training events.

I want a family friend to be my child’s buddy. What do I do?

All buddies who are not an immediate family member will need to register as a volunteer buddy for the event. When the volunteer registers, please have him or her indicate the guest they would like to be paired with.

Special Note for Group Homes:

Group home registrations will be need to be done by appointment. Please fill out the appointment request form for group home and a time will be scheduled for one of our team to come to your facility and do a personalized registration session. We ask that social workers or those registering multiple guests who are not related to them also use this process.

Volunteer Dress Rehearsal

This team will assist with event execution for the Volunteer Dress Rehearsal/Training that takes place the week of Night to Shine prom. From check-in, greeting, and directing volunteers, we will have a team in place to make sure everyone receives the training needed to best prepare for prom!

Set Up

Arrive the day before the event, February 8th and execute the event set-up from decorations and red carpet to signage and therapeutic rooms. This is where it all comes together!


Check-in is the most important team at Night to Shine! The check-in team oversees all aspects of volunteer, guest, and parent check in. Check-in will include greeting people, directing them to the correct check in area, checking them in and passing out labeled lanyards. Guests will then be escorted to the Buddy area where they will be paired with their buddy for the evening.

Coat Check

If you like to work behind the scenes, this is a great team for you! You’ll be responsible for taking coats, labeling them and hanging them. As guests leave, you’ll do it all in reverse!


This is one of the most important jobs at the prom and one of our biggest needs! As a buddy escort, you are responsible for accompanying and assisting your assigned guest throughout the evening providing companionship and any assistance they may need during the evening.

Red Carpet/Exit Team

Our ‘paparazzi’ is one of the funnest teams at prom! This team is placed along the red carpet to cheer on and welcome each and every guest to prom. This team is encouraged to take pictures with their phone and post them to social media using various Night to Shine hashtags. At the end of the night, this team will assist in the exit process for guests and their buddies.



Greeters are vital to the success of Night to Shine! Greeters are tasked with welcoming and directing guests, parents and volunteers. We want to make sure that every person at Night to Shine feels like the kings and queens they really are!


Our hospitality team will welcome and oversee the dining areas as well as the VIP section for our sponsors. We want to provide everyone with a wonderful environment that allows them to enjoy all the festivities of the evening.

Roaming Photography

This team of professional photographers is responsible for capturing every part of this remarkable evening. Photographers will rotate throughout every area of the prom to make sure not a single moment is missed.


Our food teams are tasked with assisting each of the food vendors with set up, preparations, and serving of food and drinks to the different groups of guests, buddies, and volunteers.

Parent Date Night

Help us love on all the deserving parents by serving food, spending time getting to know them and just making them feel loved and appreciated.  

Step and Repeat Photo Booth

What is prom without prom pictures? The step and repeat photo booth is where each guest and buddy will have their prom pictures taken and printed. Each guest and buddy will receive a copy to take home at the end of the evening. Making sure each picture gets to its proper recipient is a top priority for this team.


Music Therapy

Calling all musicians! If you love to sing or play an instrument, the music therapy room is one of our guests’ favorite rooms. This team will lead the room in songs with guests providing accompaniment through the use of musical instruments.


Our karaoke room is one of the biggest hits of prom! The karaoke team is responsible for greeting and welcoming guests into the room, assisting them with song selection, and cheering them on during performances.


The response team will work during prom to respond to various needs of guests, parents and volunteers. Between command central and information kiosks located throughout the facility, it’s your job to keep things running smoothly!


This team will oversee the parking patterns and traffic flow of guests and volunteers as they arrive by directing them to appropriate drop off and parking areas. You will also coordinate the route for the limo, as well as assisting guests with entering and exiting our limo vehicles.

Respite Care

This room is specifically designed to comfort guests who may have become overstimulated on the dance floor or in other areas of the prom. There will be various sensory activities to help aid in an overall calming experience.

Art Therapy

If you are into arts and crafts, this is the team for you! Our art therapy room provides guests with an opportunity to have fun through hands-on craft activities. Guests will get to take home all pieces made that evening!  A special “thank you creation” will also be made by our guests and sent directly to Tim Tebow!

Restroom Attendants

At Night to Shine, we want everyone to feel special no matter where they are, including the restrooms! Our restroom attendants will be responsible for pampering guests by offering mints, cologne, perfume, or hand lotion.

Crowning/Stage Team

One of the most rewarding teams of the night, the crowing team oversees the crowning process where every single guest is crowned prom king and prom queen! This team will also be responsible for coordinating the various stage activities throughout the evening. If you are outgoing and love to dance and have fun, this is the team for you!

Tear Down

When the party's over, it’s your time to shine! You’ll help get everything packed and loaded up. With all hands on deck, we’ll be finished in no time!


Every prom guest deserves a corsage and boutonniere and the flowers team is there to make it a reality! This team is in charge of passing out and pinning all flowers to our guests as they arrive at prom.

Shoe Shine

Even the guys deserve pampering at prom! The shoe shine team will coordinate and welcome our male guests to the shoe shine area as they receive the all-star treatment for their dancing shoes!

Gift Bags

Each guest of Night to Shine will receive a gift bag at the end of the night with souvenirs from their prom experience, including materials from the Tim Tebow Foundation and a framed prom picture. This team will oversee making sure all items make it into the bags, and that bags are correctly distributed at the end of the evening. .

Prom Shop is the party before prom! Our prom shop team consists of several mini-teams that make prom shop memorable for each of our guests. Prom shop is where every prom guest is able to come and shop for dresses and tuxes, free of charge! It takes place two weeks before prom and there are needs in every area including, greeting, changing room attendants, photography, personal shoppers, food, and check out. Everyone who is volunteering at Night to Shine is encouraged to be a part of this awesome event!
