A Brief History
A Brief History
Genesis Church is a Spirit-filled Church (affiliated with the Church of God of Cleveland, TN). This diverse community is a multi-generational, multi-ethnic group emerging from all denominational backgrounds from Catholic to Baptist to Pentecostal. Everyone is welcome! Genesis has modern, live worship (Maverick City, Elevation, Bethel, etc.) and a passionate, relevant message for today. Join us each Sunday at our 10:31 AM Experience! College meets on Mondays at 6:30 PM and Students (Middle & High) meet on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM.
Genesis Church began with a small core group of eight people when God called the Hunters, Pastor Scott and his brother Brian, to move from Cincinnati, Ohio with a vision to create an exciting and innovative church in Tallahassee. Our denomination gave us a small building on the eastern edge of the city. For six months, the core group planned and organized a church committed to reaching unchurched people in a relevant and relational way.
During this big-faith, risk-taking time, a core planning team grew to almost forty by word of mouth as we prepared for our opening day on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003.
After months of hard work, diligent prayer and strategic preparation, as well as an extensive marketing campaign, we opened our doors to the public not knowing what to expect.
Opening day was a great success with more than 220 people attending two services!
After serving in the church in roles as Families Pastor, Media-Arts Pastor and as Graphic Designer/Marketer, Pastor Scott assumed the Lead Pastor role in year 9 of the church! Our vision and passion for our city, our country and our world are bigger and stronger than ever as we live out our mission to know Christ and make Him known.
Genesis is in year 20 and is still one of the most welcoming, friendly, diverse and non-judgmental environments around. We are a Spirit-filled church full of power - pouring it out as we serve the Special Needs Community, champion BoysTown North Florida (Foster Care), as well as serving local Families & Kids, Students, College, Women and Men groups, and SO MUCH more! We still have a heart to be a real church for real people! Come and experience Genesis at 10:31 AM this Sunday.

Scott is husband to his lovely wife Tabitha and dad to his wonderful daughters, Adison and Ella. He became Lead Pastor of Genesis Church in January 2013, but has been a driving force in forming and developing the church since it began over a decade ago. Scott has worn many hats in the church and helped develop many of the functioning ministries in existence today. His passion is to reach the lost in compassionate, caring and creative ways. He helped start Genesis with his older brother in this journey. His heart is not just for his city, but for the nation and the world. He knows the best is yet to come!

What We Believe
What We Believe
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God. (Genesis 1:1,26,27 , 3:22 ; Psalm 90:2 ; Matthew 28:19 ; 1 Peter 1:2 ; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is coequal with the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign as King. (Matthew 1:22-23 ; Isaiah 9:6 ; John 1:1-5 , 14:10-30 ; Hebrews 4:14-15 ; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 ; Romans 1:3-4 ; Acts 1:9-11 ; 1 Timothy 6:14-15 ; Titus 2:13)
The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily. We believe in the post-salvation experience of Spirit Baptism which is evidenced by speaking in other tongues as the Spirit enables us. We believe the church should operate in the fullness of the Spirit as the first century church did in the book of Acts. (Acts 1:8; 2, 4, 8, 10, 19; 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Galatians 5:25; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18)
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs about living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without error. (2 Timothy 1:13, 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 12:6, 119:105, 160; Proverbs 30:5)
People are made in the spiritual image of God to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. Sin separates us from God and causes many problems in our life. (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2)
Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:2, 14:6; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1, 10:9-10)
People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life in Heaven. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence. (John 3:16, 14:17; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9)
In Non-Essential Beliefs, we have liberty. Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters…Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls…So then each of us will give an account of himself to God..So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. (Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22)
In All our Beliefs, we show the love of God. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. (I Corinthians 13:2)
